meat packaging is one of the things that
determines the quality of the meat which is why you need to choose it wisely.
Have you been packaging your meat as it needs to be packed? You don’t know?
Well, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s find out which will work for you.
But before anything, let’s check on what should you pay attention to when
packaging your meat:
- Airtight
- Skin-tight
- Clearly labeled
You should pay attention to the detail of
the meat being airtight. Most of the time when you try to preserve your meat,
you would most likely freeze it with the presence of air. This causes the meat
to become dehydrated and result in what they call the freezer burn. Freezer
burn does not make the food products any less safe to it, but it does cause the
food to lose its flavors and textures.
While we just considered airtight meat
packaging, the opposite of it is it being in a skin-tight while it being
packaged. Skin-tight packaging will make sure that the number of air withing
the package is at a minimal and it can help prevent freezer burn.
Another thing you can do is clearly label all the meat that you are trying to preserve. You can do this by taking a label
and naming the meat you are trying to preserve with the date it was packaged.
So, which of these meat packaging do you
need to use?
Your choices are:
- Store wrap meat packaging
- Modified atmosphere meat packaging
- Vacuum meat packaging
A store wrap one is one of the most used
wrap in all type of market. It usually comes with a foam tray that holds the
meat with absorbent pad underneath the meat and wrapped with a clear plastic
film. As you don’t want your meat to be too dehydrated or too moist, this wrap
still allow oxygen from the air to come into the packaging to give air to the
meat. This type of packaging is apparently the cheapest and easiest to do meat
packaging, especially if you buy a lot. There is one downside to this type of
wrap. That is being that the shelf life could be shortened as it will keep on
being exposed to oxygen. But as this is the most generic one, it is still okay
to use.
Modified atmosphere packaging is a plastic
tray that holds the meat product with absorbent pad underneath it and clear
plastic film at the top of it. Then, it will get vacuumed but leaves a bit of
oxygen for the meat then giving in modified atmosphere that contain purified
gasses that are normally found in air. It will then preserve the meat better.
What is the difference between modified atmosphere
and vacuum packaging? It is shaped as a pouch bag to protect meat from
moisture, abrasion, and gas. The difference is after vacuuming the bag, it will
then dip into hot water afterwards to seal it. We believe that this is the best
type of meat packaging you will find in the market. More pleasing to the eyes,
more effective for the meat as it lengthens the strength of it in the shelf.
